Workshop on Family Run Business Organized by Young Indians at Siliguri Today

Webdesk, TNI Siliguri, 13th July, 2017: Young Indians, Siliguri Chapter organized a Session on Role of Women in Family Managed Business by Prof. Parimal Merchant. This event was organized today along with another Session on Working Capital Management in Family Businesses at Hotel Barsana Siliguri. Around more than 100 women belonging to family businesses from Siliguri attended the event.
This session was specifically designed to benefit the women members of families that are engaged in family businesses. The workshop provided a unique opportunity and perspective to the women, participating in the workshop, to engage with, and learn from India’s finest knowledge provider in the field of Family Business Management – Prof. Parimal Merchant, who is also the Director, Family Managed Business Programs, S. P. Jain School of Global Management (SPJSGM).
Prof. Parimal Merchant is known to be an expert in the field of Family Managed Business in the country. He spoke about today’s changing business environment, and the way family business is run. Talking to TNI Prof. Parimal Merchant said “It is important to educate the women about their family business. Basic knowledge and skills regarding their family’s business must be known to the women of the family.

It helps them to understand the dynamics of how the business is affecting their family life, and accordingly manage their families. Also, Family Managed Businesses have unique challenges. Along with managing the business, it is important that the family is managed well.
Family as a building block is very important, and family women play a very important role in integrating the family, succession planning, issues and opportunities in joint families, managing conflict, ethical guidance, etc.” Overall, it was a rare opportunity for the women of business families from Siliguri. Organizing this event, the Young Indians has definitely taken a lead in thought leadership and educated women about a unique dimension in a family business.
